Sapele Wood

Sapele wood comes from an African tree throughout Conga to Uganda Sapele wood has a Janka rating of 1500 so it is harder than the traditional red oak.

Sapele wood is one of Europe’s most desired woods and is very close to mahogany. So if you are looking at a red wood and mahogany is not available the Sapele could be a great choice for you.

Sapele wood is again very close to mahogany except the grain on mahogany is large and wide though it is a hard wood the large grains are easier to scratch and the tight long grain in the Sapele wood is much harder to scratch even though it is a softer wood.

Denver Carpet and Hardwood has samples of both of these two similar woods. Let us know and we can bring them both to see which one is a better fit for your décor.
