Domestic Hickory Flooring

Hickory is a beautiful multi-color domestic hardwood that can range from whitish to a reddish brown. Due to the rich color variations, domestic hickory flooring from Denver Carpet and Hardwood also offers a larger variation in the grain. You can have a grain that that shows more of the natural knots and sap pockets for a rustic look.Or you could get a more refined, contemporary look with less color variation and less grain. Although Hickory flooring is beautiful, make sure you take the time to look at exactly what the floor will look like before you go through with the installation to make sure you are happy with the variations that are in the floor. Denver Carpet and Hardwood’s domestic hickory flooring experts can help you find the perfect hickory floor for your taste and aesthetic.

Hickory is 50% harder than oak at 1820 on the Janka scale (the rating that measures the resistance of a sample of wood to denting and wear). This means that hickory does not stain very easily. However, when it comes to sanding, it has a tendency to fuzz that in an unappealing way. If you’re interested in hickory flooring, a prefinished floor is easier to deal with. Let the large manufactures make the floor smooth before it goes into your home, condo or office.

Hickory also needs to dry properly because it does tend to shrink tremendously after it is harvested. If Hickory is not dried right, you could have a lot of issues with your floor. You can help keep this from happening if you acclimate the wood in your home. As long as you are careful with the acclimation process, your floors will be beautiful for years to come. Luckily, we here at Denver Carpet and Hardwood know domestic hickory flooring well and can help you with the acclimation process. Give us a call today!
